So you've just purchased your broadband adsl wireless router and you want to get your internet access around your office or house!
There are a couple of steps that you need to follow in order to begin using your new router. When you purchase a router from EscapeNet we will have preconfigured the router and enabled wireless security. We enable WPA-PSK security by default.
- Enable wireless Lan on router.
- Configure wireless security on router.
- Enable wireless lan on computer.
- Configure wireless security on computer.
Wireless Lan On Router
Some routers have their wireless functionality always on, whilst others can have it turned off. If you have not seen the wireless lan detected on your computer then you will need to check if the router has that function enabled.
Enable Wireless Security On Router
You will need to log into your routers configuration page and enable the security. For a list of the routers we support, please click
here. If your router is not supported by EscapeNet, please check the user guide that came with your router.
Enable Wireless Lan On Computer
Most laptops will have a switch which allow you to turn the
radio off on the laptop, generally whilst in flight mode. Sometimes the switch is located on the side of your laptop, and in other instances it's a button on top of your laptop or accessed by way of a function key. If you cannot find the switch you will need to try searching the web or contacting the manufacturer of your laptop. We're not aware of any physical
radio switches on desktop computers, however management tools supplied with many wireless lan cards have an option for
radio off.
Configure Wireless Security on Computer
After you have set up your wireless security on your router, you'll need to set up your computer to store the information so it's able to connect to the router. Whether you use Windows or third party software to run your wireless connection, you'll need to refer to the appropriate user guide to set up your security.
